Ambergris Caye is the most popular island located off the coast of the jungles of Belize, south of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. It is one of the newest and hottest tropical destinations in the world; this is because of the exotic birds, longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere, and one of the most energetic nightlife you will ever come across. Possibly the best vacation you could have, would start at the window seat on a twenty-minute flight from the fishing village of San Pedro where you will catch a bird’s eye view. Romantic sunsets are just part of what you will experience upon landing on Ambergris Caye. The cool Caribbean breeze will sweep through your hair while you get your feet wet from the warm waves washing up on the white sandy beaches. This is the lovely Ambergris Caye.
It is the largest caye of 200 Cayes (islands) on the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Sea. It is a narrow strip of paradise of about 25 miles long that was once part of the Yucatan Peninsula. A short boat ride from this caye would take you to the Incredible Barrier Reef where you can partake in activities such as diving and snorkeling. You can expect the presence of a thriving population of tropical fish and other marine life that will make your experience magical. On the island, you can also participate in various types of water sports, fishing, and even bird watching.
While you are there, do not go looking for hotel chains, fast food joints, or designer stores in Ambergris because you will not find them. During the day, it is a slow-moving town that will really get you relaxed; instead of fast-moving cabs, you will find golf carts bumping in the streets lined with charming shops. You can even rent these golf carts if you are looking to explore the island. The warm hospitality of the 8,000 Belizean people who live in the town clearly shows why the town’s slogan is ‘no shoes, no shirt? No problem’. At night, you will find an entertaining nightlife thanks to the many energetic nightclubs.
For most of the year, Ambergris Caye is warm and very sunny; this makes it the perfect tropical destination. Water temperature lies at 79 to 83 Fahrenheit all year round so make sure you bring your bathing suit and a sun hat.
